In a popular sense, the novel has come to be viewed as an adventure story of our country's beginnings, an American counterpart to Sir Walter Scott's Waverley escapades set against the backdrop of a pristine yet unpredictable wilderness, the inhabitants of which eventually disappear. Scholars of James Fenimore Cooper have generally interpreted The Last of the Mohicans and its American Indian characters as emblematic of the Vanishing American convention in American literature, whereby Natives must be subsumed in order for a young America to fulfill its destiny. ![]() ![]() Forever And a Day is probably my least favorite, though, in part because I’m getting slightly bored with the expected, but mostly because I experienced too much dissonance between the light tone and the serious issues packed into the story. ![]() I have not hated any of these books, and most fall into the B-range. The Lucky Harbor books – both series – are no exception. It was small town Romance that didn’t read kitschy or cutesy to me, and I loved it. I think the first book of yours that I read was Instant Attraction, and I remember being so taken by the smart, capable heroine, the realistic relationship issues in the romance, and the interesting Sierra Nevada setting. ![]() Janet C- Reviews adoption / Contemporary / disability / doctor hero / single father / Small-Town 18 Comments ![]() AugREVIEW: Forever and a Day by Jill Shalvis ![]() ![]() Pohl won the Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer in 2010, for his blog, "The Way the Future Blogs".
